The Final Countdown

Well, its less than 48 hours now until I go to the USA for the Police Unity Tour. I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve been packing tonight. Got the bike in the bike box and all sealed up Smile

Then I realised that I had a load more stuff to put in the bike box – eg cycling kit, tools etc Smile So, I’m going to have to open the box again and re seal it later.

Tomorrow is my last day at work. I have numerous things to do, not least completing my expenses claim( s ). I also have to go to an American Express office to pick up a replacement card. Then tomorrow night, I have a Committee Meeting of Lee Valley Youth Cycling Club to attend, I could have done without this meeting the night before I set off for the USA. Why was it arranged at such an inconvenient time for me? I really don’t know. I do however know that the idiot who arranged the meeting for then was me – whoops Embarrassed smile

I’ve got so many things to sort out before I leave. I have managed to book my car hire in the US and got my ESTA clearance. My passport is still valid, but only just. I have arranged to be collected at Newark Airport in the USA.

I still have last minute shopping to do. I still have car parking to arrange @ Heathrow. I need to email Phil & Tiffany in the Ohio to tell them when I will be arriving at their home.

I suppose I should really be doing this rather than typing my blog.

Anyway, there have been a few questions asked about my trip to Paris and in particular did I get down on one knee at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Well, to answer that question, I can confirm that we did go to the Cartier the Jeweller’s shop on the Champs Elysees

I even had a picture taken there

Sadly ( or was that luckily?) the store was shut and therefore I was unable to choose a ring and get down on bended knees.

Next time eh Michelle?

PS Its only 37 years since I was last at the top of the Champs Elysees

I'm a 50 something football fan and occasional cyclist. I've been a football fanatic most of my life and have completed the 92 football league & premier league grounds previously. I have 1 left to rejoin the 92 club. Added to this numerous non league grounds, a number abroad and you start to get the picture. I took up cycling in around 2000. Although my father was a former World Vets Champion, I got into cycling accompanying my son to ride in London. This was followed by my commuting to work each day into Central London. Then doing some Sunday rides, then some audax events ( and then a week's cycling holiday in France with a friend. From there, I got more and more into cycling and in 2009 completed LEJoG and in 2010 rode in the USA with the Police Unity Tour. I completed blogs for those events at and Feel free to read them and learn more about me. I now am one of the organising committee for the UK Police Unity Tour ( ) I live alone which suits me as it gives me time at weekends to pursue my interests of cycling and football. (Well what did you expect me to say? That I'm sad at being single?) I'm currently looking for my next challenge. Any suggestions gratefully received.
