Early in 2011 I wrote the following on my blog
I would love to be able to have a similar event in this country. There was talk on the 2010 Tour of trying to arrange a similar event in the UK. Hopefully this may be possible to arrange in future years.
Well in May 2013 I was contacted by Stuart McAllister from UK COPS telling me there was to be an event in the UK. It was being organised by Metropolitan Police Officers. I had met the officers in 2012 in Washington DC and met them again this year. I was invited to take part in the ride despite not being a police officer.
- So on 19th July 2013 a band of 20+ riders and 15 support set off from The Mall in London heading for The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. We had 3 days of glorious weather and a very successful trip.
- We rode into the National Memorial in time for the UK COPS Survivors service. Each rider was wearing a bracelet in memory of an officer who had died on duty. Those bracelets were presented to the survivors after the memorial service.
- Next year’s ride will be 18th – 20th July 2014 and we are limiting the ride to 100 riders. Places will fill up rapidly
